Job Opening: Regional Development Specialist at Genesee Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council

GFLRPC is seeking applicants for a full-time position as a ‘Regional Development Specialist’. A range of  planning and analytical skills are required, with a focus on data analysis to support our economic  development, grant writing needs and other regional/local planning programs.  

The position will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and communicating data; serving as a resource  for data users; and making public presentations. A significant duty will include grant writing and  administration, conducting research, and other special projects. 

Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required  to successfully perform this job. 

• Oversee the Region’s ‘Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy’ (CEDS) program  designed to meet regional needs and strengths;  

• Provide technical assistance to local governments regarding matters related to overall  planning and regional growth and development; 

• Manage promotional and communication programs on economic development  opportunities;  

• Grant writing and administration; 

• Provide technical assistance in preparing reports and presentations on a variety of topics,  including land use and development, infrastructure, water resources, recreation,  transportation, housing, and economic development; 

• Data analysis of various public data sources including census, bureau of labor statistics, NYS  data, etc.;  

• Data visualization using Adobe, ArcGis, StoryMap, Excel, etc.;  

• Database and visualizations management.  

Qualifications: At minimum, the ideal candidate shall have a four-year degree in Planning (Urban and  Regional or Transportation), Economics, public administration or a similar field and preferably one year  of experience in planning, economic development, public administration or related field. 

Compensation 

• Starting at $60,000, based on experience and education. Includes robust health care  benefits, membership in the New York State and Local Retirement System, FSA/Dependent  Care savings account, Paid Family Leave, and access to the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.
