Job Opening: Planner at Town of Amherst

The Town of Amherst Planning Department is looking to engage with entry- to mid-level planners to discuss a potential Current Planning position. The position would deal specifically with Development Review and Zoning Administration, including review of proposed development projects, zoning code compliance and revisions, variance applications, and interaction with the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE (not necessarily required):

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Urban, Regional or Municipal Planning or a related planning field (public administration, environmental studies, political science, sociology, economics, geography, architecture or landscape architecture)

• Internships or Work Experience at Municipal Entities (local, State, Federal) • AICP or AICP Candidate

DESIRED SKILLS (not necessarily required):

• Exceptional Writing Capability

• Excellent Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving Capabilities

• Experience Working with Zoning Codes

• Familiarity with New York State Building Code

• Familiarity with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR)

• Experience with Governmental Organizations and Procedures

• Proficiency with ArcGIS • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Successful completion of a Civil Service Exam will be required at a later date.
